Political Science Seminars at Sant’Anna School: Key debates on European integration and populism

  • The Sant’Anna Political Science Seminars (Pisa) explore key issues in European governance, integration, and the challenge of populism

  • 7 April seminar featured the presentation of the book A Federalist Alternative for European Governance by Prof. Sergio Fabbrini (LUISS University), expert in European politics

The Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna (Pisa) hosts a series of Political Science Seminars that explore key issues in European governance, integration, and the challenge of populism. The meetings are organised in the framework of the EXPRESS2 project and focus on various research topics addressed in Work Package 5 (WP5): Populism and its impact on European integration.

The 7 April session was a notable highlight in the series. It featured the presentation of one of the latest books by Professor Sergio Fabbrini, a renowned scholar of European politics and professor in LUISS University (Rome): A Federalist Alternative for European Governance (Cambridge University Press, 2024). Fabbrini's latest work offers a timely and thought-provoking reflection on the current state of European integration and revisits the federalist alternative as a possible way forward. This topic is particularly relevant to the ongoing discussions in other initiatives organised in Pisa as part of WP5.

The Political Science Seminar Series has run and will continue throughout the academic year, offering a dynamic forum to engage with pressing questions at the intersection of political science, European studies, and legal theory:
