Seminar: A generative theory of party systems

On 3 November 2025, the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna will host a Seminar presenting a generative theory of party systems. 

This session, organised by Professor Edoardo Bressanelli from the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, is part of the STALS (Sant’Anna Legal Studies) Political Science Seminars Series and will have as main speaker Chris Hanretty, Professor of Politics Royal Holloway, University of London. 

Hanretty will present a generative model of party systems, trained on data from over 300 elections. He will discuss the implications of this generative model for party system congruence and for polarisation.
